Bravest of the Brave Audax 200/100
September 21
€7 – €12There is a 200km or a 100km route option for this event. The theme of the event is the United Irish Rebellions of 1798-1803, while paying homage particularly to the patriot and heroine, Anne Devlin, the subject of Mícheál Ó Doibhilín’s book “The Bravest of the Brave.”
The event date coincides with the regular commemorations each year in and around the date of Anne Devlin’s death (September 18, 1851). Both routes start in Rathdrum, and travel along Clara Vale to Laragh. They then ascend the Wicklow Gap, before passing through Hollywood village, and approaching the Glen of Imaal via the Hollywood Glen. The routes split at Hacketstown, Co. Carlow, with the 100km route returning to Rathdrum via Askanagap. The 200km route wends its way southwards into Co. Wexford, where it visits 2 significant 1798 battlefields at Vinegar Hill and Oulart Hill, before returning to Rathdrum via Aughrim and Greenan. The organiser will provide 2 food stops on the 200km route and 1 food stop on the 100km route.
Entries limited to 50 riders for the 200km route and 50 riders for the 100km route. All entries must be made on Eventmaster only. Cycling Ireland Licence is required.
